Transfer Credit Process and Policies

³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø will automatically evaluate your Official Transcript in the order it was received. There are requirements associated with Transferring to ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø, including type of credit, accreditation of the issuing institution, and more. Please review the following information regarding transfer policies. 

 

Here are some general guidelines to follow when sending Official Transcripts to ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø.

  • We cannot accept email attachments, even directly from the college or agency.
  • Transcripts must come directly from the issuing institution or agency.
  • You can hand-deliver an Official Transcript to Enrollment Services in the original, sealed envelope. This must be sealed by the issuing agency. Do not open the envelope!

Electronic delivery is the fastest and most common delivery method for Official Transcripts. Most institutions use Parchment or another service. If you choose this option, have your transcript sent to: Admissions@lwtech.edu

Please note: if the electronic transcript was downloaded and viewed by anyone else, we cannot use it for transfer credit.

Processing your transcript can take up to 2-4 weeks after it is received by ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø. There may be additional delays if you choose to send a physical copy of your Official Transcript.

In general, ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø only transfers in general education classes or classes with a "&" that meet the following standards:

  1. Only Official Transcripts will qualify for transfer evaluation. No unofficial transcripts will be evaluated. 
  2. Completed with a 2.0/C grade or higher. 
  3. Classes coming from institutions accredited by one of the following associations:

Program-specific or other types of classes may be transferred for credit using Technical Elective (TELE) or Credit (CRDT) designations. If you feel that you have a class equivalent to an ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø program class necessary for graduation that was not transferred as you expected, please work with the program faculty to complete a Substitution Form. 

International Transcripts 

If you have an International Transcript, we will accept the Course-by-Course Evaluation from an evaluation agency for transfer evaluation. Students may be required to obtain course descriptions in addition to submitting the agency evaluation. 

We commonly work with the following International Credential Evaluations Agencies: 

In additional to your main General Education and Technical classes, ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø accepts a few other types of credit. 

Advanced Placement (AP):
Students who complete college-level work in high school may receive credit at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø based on scores on the Advanced Placement examination administered by the College Board. In all subject areas, credit is awarded for scores of 3 or higher. ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø's College Board code is 1453

³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø will award transfer credits for these AP exams.


Cambridge International (CI) Examinations:
³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø will award unrestricted elective credit for a Cambridge (CI) score of E on A and AS level exams. Credit will be awarded on the basis of official CI results, not transcript notation. Credits granted for general education or major requirements will be specified by the receiving institution’s CI credit policies; otherwise, elective credit will be granted. Requirements of the Associate of Arts (AA) General Transfer degree allow ten (10) credits maximum from any single department for Humanities Social Sciences and Natural Sciences distribution requirements. A maximum of five (5) credits of World Language can be used for Humanities distribution.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Dual Credit:
³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø accepts credits earned through the , a program for high school students. Credits earned through CTE Dual Credit are transferrable to any community or technical college in the state of Washington.


College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)
CLEP provides students the opportunity to earn college credit for knowledge obtained in non-traditional settings (self study, job training, internships, personal interest, etc.) Additional information about CLEP exams can be found on the  website. Passing the CLEP exams listed above counts as transfer credit and does not count as actual credit earned at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø. Transferability of these courses to other institutions is at the discretion of the receiving institution. Please consult with those institutions regarding their CLEP policy.


International Baccalaureate (IB)
³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø will award unrestricted elective credit for an International Baccalaureate (IB) score of 4 on standard-level or higher-level IB exams. Credit will be awarded on the basis of official IB results, not transcript notation. ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø will award transfer credits for .


Joint Services Transcripts
³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø welcomes military veterans on campus and encourages students to submit official copies of their Joint Services Transcript (JST) or other official record of military training (such as AARTS, SMART, or CGI) for review to the Enrollment Services office. If you believe your military training allowed you to gain competency in areas not listed on your JST, consider speaking with your faculty member about the college's Prior Learning Assessment process.


Prior Learning Assessment:
³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø does not accept Prior Learning credit from other colleges. To earn Prior Learning credit from ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø, consider speaking with your faculty member about the college's Prior Learning Assessment process.

Certain types of transfer credits may impact your ability to apply for some Selective Admission programs, especially healthcare programs. 

Special Transfer Credit Types: 

  • Test or CLEP Credits:
    • All CLEP or Pass-only test credits will be transferred in as a 2.0 (C) GPA. This may impact your competitiveness as a candidate and may actually disqualify you for some programs. 
  • Classes without decimal or letter grades: 
    • ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø does not accept credits from colleges that do not provide a decimal or letter grade. 
  • "Pass" or "Satisfactory" Grades: 
    • Classes with "Pass (P)" or "Satisfactory (S)" will be transferred in as a 2.0 (C) GPA. 

Time Limits: 
Generally, transfer credits do not expire. ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø can accept credits from any time as long as the grade is above a 2.0/C. However, if you are applying for a healthcare Selective Admission program, there may be time limits on some types of classes, such as science classes. Students who earn the Seal of Biliteracy at a Washington State high school are eligible to receive 5 world language credits at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø (³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø) upon review of their full report.

To Receive Credit:

  1. Before requesting credit: Talk to your advisor about whether this is the best option for you.  It may be better for you to complete other classes at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø rather than requesting credit for your Seal of Biliteracy.
  2. Submit your high school transcript to the Enrollment Services office. Ensure your transcript has the WA State Seal of Biliteracy listed in the ADDITIONAL STATE REQUIREMENTS section of your transcript. If you have questions about your high school transcript, contact your high school for help.
  3. Submit the We will use the high school transcript you submitted to the Enrollment Services to process your request.
  4. You will receive a confirmation email within 30 days when your credit has been awarded. 

Seal of Biliteracy Policy:

  • Eligible Languages: You may receive credit for a Seal of Biliteracy in any language, including Classical languages, American Sign Language, and Tribal languages.
  • No Cost: There is no cost to receive credit for earning the Seal of Biliteracy.
  • Satisfying Graduation Requirements: World language credits can be applied to many ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø degree requirements. For most degrees, 5 credits apply toward the Humanities distribution area (or electives). Contact your advisor to find out whether world language credits can be used for your graduation requirements.
  • Transfer Degree Students: If you transfer to another institution, you may need to request credit again according to your transfer institution's policies, which may be different than ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ꿉۪s.
  • Credit is not automatically awarded. You must follow the steps above to request credit. Once the credit has been awarded, it cannot be removed.
